You want to give out an award but what should it look like ? How big should it be ?The size of an award graphic is important specially if your using your awards program to get free advertizing for your web site.If you give out an award graphic that is so big that it takes forever to load,no one's going to want it on their page.If it's so small it gets lost in all the other awards whose going to notice it.You want an award graphic ,like goldilocks would say is just right.A graphic that is easy to see,but not to large that it becomes an eyesore.A good size for an award graphic is under 200 x200 and not smaller that 100 x100.The larger graphics should have colors that aren't to over powering. The smaller graphics should be more colorful to be more easily seen. You want an award graphic that will catch the eye.Either by its size or by its color. Bellow are some sample of award graphics in different sizes,See how size effects how an award looks
SMALL 100X100
MEDIUM 200X200
LARGE 300X300 Now which graphic do you like best ? The small one is nice but it doesn't really show up as well as the medium size one. The large one shows up but its just to much. Go with medium size award graphics and your award will look great Article created by Randy Laduron Webmaster Awards club

GIFS,BMPS,JPGS,WHATS THE DIFFERENCE
Whats the difference between gifs, bmps, jpgs.First there is load time a bitmap takes a lot longer to load then a jpg. jpgs can be even made to load faster by optimizing them.If you want an animated award it will have to be a gif.Plus different types of graphic files look different Checkout these 5 samples of the same graphic in different formats
The bitmap(bmp) has the
best color and look, but it takes longer to load, the enhanced
metafile(emf)doesn't look as good but will take less time loading,The
JPEG(jpg) is not quite as good as the bitmap(bmp) but is close and will
load faster,The windows metafile (wmf) doesnt look good ,but loads
fast,Finally the Compuserve GIF(gif) It look as good as the bitmap
almost, but will take longer to load then the jpg.
The best format is
either the jpg or the gif to use for making your awards graphic,if
its animated it will have to be a gif

To Animate or not to Animate that's the question? Animated gifs are easy to notice because a simple fact is that movement catches the eye.Animated gifs are created like a movie frame by frame. Each frame one scene in the animation.By playin the frames in a sequence an animated gif is given life.A bird can fly,a light can blink,a cartoon character can dance. Anything can be made to move only your lack of imagnation could stop you.Anything is possible using animated gifs. But there are some drawbacks to animated gifs, the files are larger then normal graphics and so they take longer to load. Each frame is like one normal graphic added together to the other frames to make a movie. Below are two samples of animated gifs One the border is animated, the other the lighthouses light blinks These are just basic animated gif with only 2 frames, but you can add as many frames as you wish ,but the size of the gif file would become to big if to many frames are added,I suggest if you use an animated award graphic to keep it simple and use only 2-4 frame animated gifs.
